Before 1995 the site of the Bali Bird Park in Singapadu was just an expanse of terraced rice fields. Today it is a magical oasis bursting with lush tropical plants and a profusion of exotic wildlife. This extraordinary transformation is a tribute to the vision and energy of its creator,Director Edi Swoboda.

A dedicated naturalist since childhood, Edi Swoboda has lived in Bali for many years. He had long dreamed of creating a bird park, and has designed personally every detail of the gardens and aviaries to create a feeling of space and openness. Winding paths fringed with bright tropical blossoms weave around lakes and ponds to form endless vistas. Toraja carvings from Sulawesi, many incorporating bird themes, are strategically positioned to draw the eye and accentuate the landscape. The Park is dominated by the dramatic Toraja House skillfully dismantled and painstakingly reassembled here by its creators.

Devoted not only to birds, the park is also a botanical oasis and gardeners’ paradise. More than 300 exotic trees and other plants are on display, some of them of great rarity and difficult to cultivate. The collection is constantly increasing as new species are added from around the world.

Skilfully blended into the gardens are some 60 different aviaries that house more than 1.000 birds. The aviaries range in size from elegant accommodation for single talking Hill Mynah to two large walk-in aviaries, in which the visitors can experience, at the first hand,the mysteries of a tropical rain forest. Here is the place to capture a glimpse of the brilliantly coloured birds in their natural habitat. This is not a place in which to rush or talk loudly. Those prepared to pause here briefly and observe silently will be rewarded with unforgettable experiences as they meet nature face in this lush setting.
As the bird population at the Park is constantly growing and changing,some of the species illustrated in this guide may not always be on display at the time of your visit.
